>Well, Bush will have serious explaining to do considering that he stated no plan for a any draft. I truly hope that it doesn't happen although my personal opinion is that EVERY American needs to serve 2 years in either the military (that includes the Coast Guard) or the peace corps.

>Other than that, today people who have served for 20 years in the military are being called back up to serve in Afghanistan and Iraq. That is without a draft. I know because my commitment is finished and they called, they have called my friends, and my ex-husband went to both Afghanistan and Iraq.

Hi Tracy,

So when did you start believing what any politician says when trying to get elected. You should always be able to tell when a politician is lying cause his lips are moving. Personally I agree that every American should have 2 years public service and don't regret being drafted in 1972. I was one of the last ones drafted since they stopped the draft just a short while later, the only lottery I ever won with #8. Fortunately I went to Germany and not Vietnam since by then they were starting to pull troops out. But I did learn a lot in those 2 years.

But seriously, I would bet that if things keep on the way they seem to be going, Bush is going to need a lot of warm bodies for his "crusade" to spread freedom and morality to the rest of the world. Our troops are spread a little thin IMHO especially if he already has his sights on his next conquest or ,God forbid, something else happens. Our "War President" needs a big military. A draft is almost inevitable unless what Dale Stansbury previously said in this thread is true that there are plenty of volunteers lined up to join the Army and Marines and that Congress just has to authorize the increase.
