>I won't disagree with you Jim that this country has homeless that need assistance and are homeless due to economic reasons. The worst can happen to anyone at anytime. However, I do know a few people that are homeless by choice - hard to believe but true. Surprisingly, many have cell phones, radios, and more. You really wouldn't believe it. Many are there because of their dependence on drugs or alcohol. I know of two guys that panhandle everyday and make more $ than they could make working so they choose to stand on street corners begging for money. I know of guys that stand out on corners with signs that state they will work for food but try to give them work for them to do and they don't want to do it. They know most people will the see the signs, think they have exhausted every effort to locate a job, and will just hand them money. I also know of a family that actually was homeless because the husband absolutely refused to collect unemployment from the government when he was
> laid off from work. In his case, his ego and stubborness failed his family. The citizens of this country can be truly amazing at times.

>>And what would you say is wrong with that, exactly? Sure, it gives you an easy "out" to belittle them, but what really is wrong with it?
>>I can think of all kinds of reasons why a homeless person might have a cellphone, one obvious one being that it might be their "investment" in trying to locate work. It's awfully hard to find work if you have no address and no telephone where you can be reached.

>>Capitalism has some "rough edges" that need to be smoothed, and the way things are going life is getting grittier and grittier all the time. Your grinning about your homeless story is a poor sign for the future. I honestly hope that life always deals you the hand you expect because I wouldn't want you to suffer the humiliation of homelessness that you so readily dish out.

Well, I usually run them off the street corners. If they are left to do that, they will also steal stuff in the immediate area. It's a "zero tolerance" approach kinda like what they did in NY to bring the city back under control.
