From your other threads you've started, your network seems flaky. As a first step I would try a complete network shutdown and restart, as follows, in order:
- shut down all W98 workstations
- shut down W2K "server"
- shut down all network switches/hubs. Leave off for at least 15 seconds.
- restart network switches/hubs
- restart W2K "server"
- restart W98 workstations
