Hi tracy,

>Is this a true assessment of broadcasting systems in Holland?

I think it is pretty accurate, but it need some explaining. They are aming on the fact that one governmental channel (not talking about the commercial ones) is not in the hands of one organisation. We have three governmentat channels on which about 15 parties called 'omroep' organisation do broadcast. They might be scattered over the three channels, but mostly they have a certain day and/or time on which they broadcast. Each omroep organisation might have a political colour (VARA = Social - Democratic, EO, KRO = Democrats). However the TV news broadcart is done by the NOS which is independed and not related to any party to be able to broadcast unbiased news. Discussion programs broadcasted by the 'omroepen' might be coloured politically. And example might be some programs of the VARA. The infotainment programs often are done by more than one omroep and tend to be unbiased.

In a fact when watching only one channel you could see programs from coloured from political parties, religions, ethnicity, etc. If the discussions is about the political colour, please bear in mind that rather for a political party they stand for a certain idealogie that matches a certain political party. They is no direct relation between the political colour and a actual political party.

I think they left out the commercial channels in this assesment.

Yep, that was what I was talking about in another thread.

>It seems opinions differ around the world in all countries:

I'm not sure what you want to say by this.

>More than 60% is afraid of riots between Moroccans and Dutch as a result of the murder of Van Gogh. Almost 90% thinks that the Dutch security services should keep a closer eye on fundamentalist Muslims than the 150 that are now being watched. Also, 80% of the interviewed agree with the statement that: “Holland is much too tolerant”. The poll also reveals that 3 out 10 Dutchmen (28%) would leave the country if they were in a position to do so.

I don't know the source of the poll, but it looks to farfetched to me. Holland always was a very tolerant country, far beyond the imagination of the average american: Soft drug are more or less legalized, Amsterdam is the gay capital of Europe and gays are able to marry as one of the first countries in the world. We have a very large number of different ethnicities in a small geographic area.

Now we going to have to face the results of this inheritance. We did invite people we actually should not have welcomed: people that had no intention to integrate into our dutch society. The message from the people and the politicians is more and more getting: If you're not willing to live according the dutch laws and respect the dutch culture, then please leave our country.
