We've always taken the tack that fewer calls to the database are always better unless, of course, the resulting single query is so unwieldy that it causes more (server side) problems than it solves.

But, when the form instantiates, I want to see if a flag in the child table is set for ANY record (not just those few linked to a particular parent), and if so, (at the user's option) reset all the flags. That sounds like it _should_ be two views, both somehow running off the same BO.
