Hey Cetin,

Got your email. Appreciate your help and suggestions.

Guess when you come down to it I'm a pessimistic type guy at heart and want the record locked first before edits proceed. The reason I attempted this approach is because I've done the same way in VFP with table buffering enabled.... the only way I'm assured I can write my changes is by using rlock even though the optimistic locks is enabled and will do this for you when you write. Just have to get my head around another approach. At the sametime though I assume you have to plan on the odd chance you won't be able to write and you have to dump your changes.

thanks again,

Don
