In theory, it should slow down the query, precisely because VFP uses the index. (Reasons in FAQ # 8109.) But in actual tests, it seems that it will sometimes speed things up, sometimes make it slower - and that is the reason, IMNSHO, that there is so much controversy over this issue. Better do some comparison tests for your specific circumstances.
