Well, you can't say I'm the best guy to talk about these issues, since I just began to use it. All I know about VoIp and the like is what I recently read in a brazilian IT specialized magazine (Info - http://info.abril.com.br). Last sunday I first used Skype and found it very easy to install and use, and the voice quality sounded very good to me. Think it is worth a try. More than that (as you asked) unfortunatelly I can't answer.
