Absolute positioning can be done in VFP 9, but it's not exactly intuitive how to define it. After adding an object to the report, bring up the properties dialog. You will see the Top, Left, Height, and Width fields near the bottom of the dialog. What you have to do is change the Top and Height so the Report Writer "thinks" the object is taller than the band it is defined in. Whenever the object is taller than the band, the report writer assumes the positions are absolute.

I know you can do it with an image but I would like to create a report with a column of information that would normally go in a header area into a 2.5 inch column down the left side of the page and then the remaining 6 inches would have the normal detail bands
