Bonnie,
Yes I am using VSS (VSS 5.0 I need to get it upgraded). Since I found out about the built in linking in VS.NET yesterday I have not had a chance to test it out fully, but from my little test application where I link myFile.cs, which is in VSS and not checked out, it seems to work just great.
If I look in the property sheet for that file it has the path to myFile.cs, which is in a different directory than my test project and there is no trace of myFile.cs in my test project directory.
So to answer your question no I don't think you have to share the linked files in VSS, but I will let you know if I find out that you have.

I am not sure why I was(/am) affraid of youing the sharing feature in VSS, maybe because I have not used that feature of VSS in the past.

If you decide to test the linking in VS.NET and you discover something surprising please let me know.

Thanks,
Einar

>Thanks for the heads-up, Einar. I've been swamped today with work deadlines and so I hadn't even been checking the questions here today. I see that was a pretty lengthy thread. Thanks to Mario for answering it. I'm with you ... I never even noticed the down arrow on the Open button before.
