I understand some of the written, having enough experience with instruction manuals for stuff I used to buy, and various signs around the place, plus having learned Latin in gymnasium. But then the spoken language is too fast for me, and also it's been more than 20 years since the last time I heard it. There's a Romanian minority in my area, but I haven't heard them much. Even in a village where Romanians are predominant (at least in their half of the place), I didn't have much chance to hear it, simply because they all presumed I wouldn't understand and switched to Serbian as soon as they started talking to me.

It's funny to find words from my language in neighbor's languages (ceasornicar - časovničar, ucenic - učenik, sa trebuie - treba - and there's another bunch of those in Hungarian). Of course, we've had our share of borrowing some other words back.
