I can't think of any direct advantages of VFP9 for these two things, unless they've fixed some of the things that make ActiveX controls a PITA. I think there were only a couple "issues" with the Chado control. If you end up messing with it, let me know and I'll dig up the few work-arounds I ended up needing. Maybe some of the new reporting features for the RTF text might be relevant.

What you'd be doing here with SQL is pretty basic. There are certainly advantages with VFP9, but I can't think of any SQL changes that would matter for this scenario.

I think you'll find that this is far easier than you fear.
