>I'm afraid I would have returned it like Jim did. But only because I would be caught. If it was from the orphanage or local church, then I would have returned it regardless of being caught. Guess I'm a little bit salvagable...

Let me tell you a bit more of the story...

The teller (evening) had told me that the cheque I was depositing for approx. $300. would have to be held for 10 days because it was written on a branch (same bank) in Kingston ON (about 250 KM away). I had approx. $3,000 in the account. I said that was unacceptable and she said "rules is rules". So I asked to talk with the manager. I explained and he said "I'm here to enforce the policies, not to break them" and refused to put an immediate release on the cheque.
So I told him that that kind of service merited closing the account immediately and taking it in CASH.
He said "Fine, I'll be happy to do that" and then when he saw the balance he said "It will take a little while to gather $7000.". When I went to ask about the amount he promptly interrupted with "you'll get the balance sheet when I'm done" in a snarky way. He really didn't want to hear that I felt the balance was way off!
He packaged the money in a brown envelope and I proceeded home. When I got home there was a message from Mr. Snarky. I return the call and he told me of the mistake and asked me to return the money immediately.
I told him that my "policy" required that I hold on to the cash overnight to evaluate the situation and that I would be pleased to talk with the branch manager tomorrow.
That was done and the branch manager then instructed that no cheque I deposited, up to a value of $25,000 was to be held. Ever.

cheers

>>Wow I think I would have returned the money too but only after that uppity manager got down on his knees and said "I am very sorry, could I please have the money back" (evil grin)
