>The problem with the 'Theory of Evolution' as it is taught in American Secular Schools is that it is not viewed as a theory, it is presented as a fact. If you get into a discussion with a high school biology teacher and begin to present problems with the theory, the answer that you will probably get back is that modern biology is based on this theory and therefore it cannot be questioned. If you take the time to do any reading on Evolution you will know that there are tremendous arguments inside the scientific community about all aspects of the theory. None of this reaches the level of elementary and secondary education, and very likely little reaches the common college student. Therefore, there needs to be a warning that what is presented in these books is just a 'theory' and to a great extent does not agree with the current scientific accessment of the theory.

Not sure why I got this from you, but...

All theories are in flux. Argued. Bent. Broken. Pieced together again. Can't prove the theory of gravity, most of gometry, relativity, a lot of math above and beyond the simple operators, and many others. Theories are unproven. That's part of the definition. But, they are formed from observable facts and events that can be repeated and replicated. Bacteria that becomes resistant to antibiotics is an observable and replicable fact that supports evolution. It is one of many such facts and events.

Plenty of teachers out there and researchers as well who are not dogma driven. If it were that the education system was allowed to teach critical thought instead of 'pass the test, gotta get the numbers up so we are not a bad school' we might see a more in depth curriculum. It seems that most educators and their supervisors are commanded to concentrate on turning out single purpose cogs for business rather than scholarly members of society.

As for fundamentalist bashing--when you say that yours is the one true god and everybody else is wrong, no matter what, you start the bashing. Why shouldn't it come back around?

You started this with 'American Secular Schools' I believe that secular is the key word here. If you want intensive bible studies and sanitized science that does not offend the church dogma, go to a church school and help reduce class sizes in the public school.
