I would say that the performance penalty will be very reasonable, if noticed at all.

It is the safest way though. Try it and should they complain, give them the choice. I think we both know what their answer will be ;-)

Maybe get an idea with perfmon.exe. There are lots of things in there you can see. I confess I've never used it, but it is there should you want to use it
