Paul,
If it's not a virus (I don't know a virus doing it), executable should be copying itself first to temp dir. On other stations is there a temp dir or windows\temp dir (where environment var temp is set) is filled with that files ? Could it be a quirky way of controlling how many sessions are run ? If no other harm you could write a batch file to delete them after app and make a shortcut to this batch.
