Jim,
I did a little reading on Evolutionary theory a year or so ago. The conclusion I came to is that there is extreme disagreement in the scientific community about this theory. As far as I could discern there is no 'current theory of evolution', at least in my readings. My impression was that Darwinian evolution has been virtually discarded by serious scientists as a mechanism of explanation and that there is a frantic search for a replacement. Organisms are just too complex to be explained by a mechanism whose basic element is randomness. However, in the educational establishment the same old theories are taught to the young without any discussion of alternatives.

There is much discussion and inquery within the Creationist community, but you are right, the basic assumption of Creationism is not questioned. However, I would say the same about Evolutionists. Witness the fury and name calling that occurs when someone does question it. Let both sides present a case and open minds can make rational decisions.
A problem is a problem only as long as it has a possible solution. Lacking that, it becomes a FACT!
