Somehow I think that the two of you would differ on what constitutes an "enlightened community."
"Rational discourse" is the attempt to promote a point of view and barring any particular point of view takes it out of the realm of discourse. Either ignore him or continue to debate him on the merits of your case, but don't tell him not to engage in the debate.
