Hi Sergey,

Thank you for the reply which solved my problem. As usual, your extensive knowledge of VFP has helped us lesser mortals. You know, I was using SET ORDER TO thinking it would make the index go away. Doh!

I also agree with your comments about opening the files in specific work area, however the use of the work area numbers goes back a long way in my app and if I were to do it again, how different it would be. A future project of mine is to change them all to the table alias.... BTW, I was "bitten" by this very same issue with indexes when I was using SET ORDER TO 1 when I should have been using SET ORDER TO TAG numbers (for example).

A lesson well learnt.
