I try my best but, having grown up in a BIG city, I frequently just pass people by....especially in crowds.

I remember my first experiences living in small-town Iowa. Every car that passed by waved and I was astonished. (OK Smartypants.......not the cars, the drivers). I was astonished but quickly got used to the idea. You actually do feel better about things when you wave back.

My wife remembers living in small-town Nebraska as a kid and her uncle would wave the same way. When she asked him "Why? You don't even know those people" he answered, "Not yet, but someday I might."

It's a small town virtue which is not practical in my life today........and I miss it.
