>But these really are the same thing, Dean.

The Bible teaches differently in a number of places - Dean has quoted a couple of the key verses.

>I mean, if a born-againer later goes around murdering people, robbing people, etc. then he ain't goin to heaven, regardless! Others will simply say that he wasn't REALLY 'born again' based on his deeds.

You are partly right - either he is born again or he is not. If he has truly been born again, he will inherit eternal life. Per Ephesians 1:13-14 the believer is "sealed" and his salvation cannot be taken away. Christians do not become perfect at salvation, and all sins are pretty much equal in God's eyes. So, whether I go around murdering or telling white lies it's really no different to God. Any lifestyle of sin would seem to indicate the individual did not have a true born again experience.

>So in the end everything comes down to good people doing good deeds.

No, good deeds to not earn salvation. Rather, they are a reflection of your salvation. There is a difference.
