Good point & the best way to find out the answer it to try it & see. Removing the 'parent' table from the select statement should simplify it considerably which will give you at least 2 additional bonuses. Firstly it will be easier to read & understand in 6 months time when you come back to that part to modify it. Secondly it will execute faster which is always desireable!
