Just to followup on this...I decided not to remove Virtual PC from my system, but instead just to remove the protocol. I don't have Virtual PC running most of the time, and certainly not when I was having the problem with Localhost. Removing the VMWare protocol from the network card didn't change the problem. I've decided to just use 127.0.0.1 instead localhost from now on.
