That doesn't work for me :(, Everytime a take a step forward with this thing it seems like i'm taking two step backward...

I tried to do the same as you do, i little bit differently:

StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder();
System.IO.StringWriter sw = new StringWriter(sb);
res.queryResult.WriteXml(sw);
StringReader sr = new StringReader(sb.ToString());
_cust.ReadXml(sr, XmlReadMode.InferSchema);
_cust.AcceptChanges();

I have the same result as if i replace the _cust value with a new Dataset, no update to the databinding fields.
