When my oldest was in kindergarten, there was a boy in his class who didn't know the names of the colors. Given things like Sesame Street, the teacher was stunned. Turned out the family only had a black-and-white TV.

Apparently, there were other ways this kid wasn't ready for school. He repeated kindergarten and proceeded to eventually graduate from high school.
