Hi All,

The December 2004 GRAFUG meeting will be held NEXT Saturday, December 11, 2004, from 10:00AM to 12:00PM. Notice that I said “NEXT” Saturday and not “THIS” Saturday. I’m sending the reminder out a little early this month because we have a special speaker and we’d like to have as many people as possible attend. We are also having officer elections so make sure your voice is heard by voting. In addition, and this might be the most important thing, Mike Timpe has volunteered to bring homemade muffins to the meeting!!

Main Presentation:

I’m happy to announce that Bill Anderson, president of the L.A. Fox User Group, will be traveling to Grand Rapids to make the following presentation:

** Using Software Design Patterns **

All well structured object oriented architectures are full of patterns. Focusing on these common patterns (Design Patterns) during a system's development can yield an architecture that is smaller, simpler, and far more understandable than if these patterns are ignored. Using these Design Patterns in your development can provide a significant maintenance advantage during an application's lifespan. Like a Japanese haiku (a three line poem consisting of exactly 17 syllables), Design Patterns have a simple construction, but also can be rather hard to fathom.

In this session Bill will outline the most common Design Patterns and use familiar Visual FoxPro terminology to illustrate each Pattern. While Design Patterns aren't specific to any software development language, attendees should be familiar with Visual FoxPro terminology and the principles of object orientation.

Officer Elections:

Annual officer elections will be held at the December meeting. Not all the incumbents are willing to continue with their current posts so we are forced to make some changes. If anyone would like to volunteer for a position, please let us know!! Remember, this group is for the benefit of all and needs everyone’s support. Note: I have not heard from Martha Kroll whether she is willing to continue with any of her posts.
