While it *IS* "entertainment", the league doesn't really want us to view it that way and kids sure see it as far more than "entertainment". If the league really did view it as entertainment then they would throw away the record books for personal achievement and just record gates and profits instead.

Virtually ANY business I know of, with the possible exception of the "news" business ("I was just doing my job...") ALWAYS operates on the basis that the law trumps their own policies and regulations. Baseball even had it enshrined in law that there couldn't be "free agents", until quite recently. I guess Bonds could well go to jail yet stay on the team, but I doubt it would happen.
I wonder how many baseball Hall of Famers got there with CRIMINAL records earned while they played the game?
