How stout is the machine that's running this app? Many years ago (when dinosaurs walked the earth and Bill Gates was just a millionaire), when the machine started running out of memory, one of your hints was the fact that parts of the screen would start dissappearing.

Another thought. Are you passing the default filename as "EXE" or are you setting a variable. If the latter, have you tried putting the variable in the debug window and setting a break point to make sure that it is not getting blanked out?
