I have to reluctantly agree with you. Not only the mob mentality but also the type of behavior and lack of morality practiced throughout history soley out of fear. Our instant to survive above all else is sometimes so overpowering that humans will turn a blind eye and passively condone the most terrible acts against humanity. It has happened in almost all religions and civlizations.
