Another advantage is that some companies don't have the financial resource to update many workstation, with a terminal server solution, your server cost a little bit more because you have to invest in a multi processor machine with lots of RAM but it is usualy less dans updating many workstation and network infrastructure.

Many of our customer adopted that topology and they don't regret it. We have a customer with 60 store connected to a "Farm of terminal server"

One of the best implementation I've seen is in schools. They manage users, applications on terminal server. They is less deployment effort and they keep control on everything.

Many device can also access terminal server : Workstation, thin client, Hanheld device running CE and even a MAC!

One other thing, once you have a terminal server in place, you can also install CITRIX metaframe on top off it is specially helpfull if you need more than 256 colors or if you are running DOS application that require advance printing capabilities.
