What is the date value that you are trying to import? VFP supports a wider range of dates than SQL Server ( January 1, 1753 through December 31, 9999 for datetime and January 1, 1900, through June 6, 2079 for smalldatetime).

I used to get this error with smalldatetime columns and invalid user input (e.g. 2400 instead of 2004).
