Rich,
>>I'm not trying to be snide, but if this is the intent of a marriage would you consider a man and woman with no intent to have children as being married or in a "civil union?" What about people physically unable to have children due to age or some physical disability? If you consider these as marriages (I do) then I think by extension a gay couple is "married."
Who knows. In this country they can now be married if they so choose.

"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
