I tried out your suggestion for using TXTWIDTH() but it gave me a much more conservative widths as it depended on the string passed to it (in all probablity it is an empty string form the cursor). Well for now I will stick to FONTMETRIC(6, ...) * LEN(fld) * 1.15 <g>

I will also try out Sergey's suggestion.
