Advice not bothered by any knowlegde about your app:
Take one of the controls most often used for the app anyhow and make it better.
In my case it was the treeview, which in the previous implementation just took too long.
So after having cleaned that mess up, my efforts with the Listbox were not really needed, even if it was faster by a great factor [measured in millisecs <g>] and worked without a hitch [after being declared "impossible to do" by resident experts].
There is no real "technical" problem with any control stopping you from feeding it ridicolous amounts of data.
