I have a zipcode database named ZIP.DBF with ~40,000 records, each only 4 fields wide (the table is only 2.5 MB in size). Any time I try to browse this table either in a grid or a browse the control says it is read-only. I am also getting a delay of around 15-20 seconds on my PC before an escape or move around operations seem to work.

I have tried (to no avail):

- using the table exclusive
- copying the table to another dbf
- creating a form with only a grid control
- specifying the table.field name in each control source per FAQ on the UT
- forcing the control properties to .readonly = .F. during each refresh
- using browse normal and browse nooptimize instead of browse preference zip
- clearing out the FOXUSER table that the preference is writing to
- recompiling in VFP7 - I get the same results

Does anyone have any idea of why this is happening and a workable solution? Thanks to all.
