>>In my mind, Michel's decision was strictly a business one. You don't get to be an MVP by the number of posts you make. You get to be one based on the accuracy of those posts. An MVP, by the rules of the program (which are available to all on-line) answers more questions than they ask, and the one's that they answer have a high degree of accuracy.

>Thats fine and I agree. It's not the quantity of posts but the usefulness. However my point remains - you dont have to be an MVP for that. Plus, there is also the aspect that many people create a community and may not be so much technical contributors but still make this a great community to be a part of.

>>For myself, I don't put MVP in my sig block because the award is for what you've done (past tense). There's no guarantee that what I post to-day will be correct.
>>
>>I did have, however, a poor experience when I did put it in my sig block. When Carl Warner, the longtime editor of the VFUG newsletter (to which I contributed) decided to step down, I made a post here thanking him for his contributions to the community. I changed my sig for the purpose of saying that I, as an MVP, appreciated his contribution. Unfortunately, because I didn't remove it, I got a number of posts that seemed to be directed to the point of challenging me because I was an MVP.

>Well there is no accounting for wierd behaviour but I haven't seen this myself and I dont see any posts challenging this move by UT either.

>>By "giving" MVPs a PUTM, Michel hopes to attract more MVPs (I'm surmizing this). This helps to enhance the value of this site, and, in turn, attracts more people who may become PUTMs, or better, MVPs themselves.
>
>I certainly don't come here for the MVP's. It means nothing to me. If someone gives me a solution that works, then it works. I dont need to get it from an MVP. The MVP program, in my opinion, is designed to tie top developers to the MS stable of tools. I have never used it as a means to qualify responses nor whether to decide to join a community or not.
>
>My point is still that the PUTM offer and MVP status, imo, should not be linked per se. For instance I think DenisC should get a PUTM for life because of his enormous contribution furthering the VFP line <g> Seriously there are many great contributers here, many are not MVP.

Hi Jos,

In thinking about this, I remembered some history.

It may not be strictly a decision by Michel, but one that is supplemented by MS. I don't know for certain, but it is a distinct possibility.
George
