>Is your SQL installation installed as the "default" install? I seem to remember having this problem, but can't remember the resolution. But, I think it was because SQL 7.0 was on the machine, so SQL 2000 installed as NOT the default server even though it turned off SQL 7.0.

Ho BOb,

It's SQL2K and, AFAIK, the only SQL Server installation on the box. But now that you mention it, it's actually the MSDE, not the full SQL Server. Hmmm, I wouldn't expect it, but I wonder if that has anything to do with it?
