The interpretations of this number vary widely. It has often been assigned to someone not very popular in certain circles, like the pope, or Bill Gates.
I seem to remember I saw an interpretation somewhere, relating it to historical events in the year 666, but I can't remember the details now. I am not even sure whether that was 666 after Christ, or 666 d.H.
