>I don't know what to think about what your 'kind' car salesmen call 'cashback', are there really any people who don't understand that they must pay back the money they 'get for free'?

That cashback is something I can't really understand. You're not just buying a car, you're giving your dealer (or car manufacturer, whoever) an interest-free loan! And you're doing that at the time you're really tight for money - you're buying an expensive car, and you're probably taking a loan, so you're actually paying interest on the money you then loan for free.

The only way I can get some sense into this is that the amount in question is tax-deductible somehow, and the total reduction in taxes is above the interest you pay... but then, the tax return may be a year later, and during that year, you've paid interest... my serious doubts about that being profitable for the customer.
