Oh sure, prices have gone up a LOT! Almost all Dutch believe that it started with the introduction of the euro and that it was caused by entrepeneurs who saw it as a chance to sneakilly rise their prices. The example I gave is mild. The truth is that a beer, or chips/frites, was 2 - 2.50 guilders and is now 'only' 1.50 - 1.75 euro. It looks as though it is lower, but in fact it is much more expensive. Going to a restaurant? Very expensive. The only sector that seems to have converted okay is the supermarket sector.

>You found that prices have gone up since the Euro? I found that in Italy & France. It'll help me decide if we ever have a referendum over here. Also, Euro as a name for curency sucks (and sounds stupid in some languages, esp. French - Sounds like they're about to sick down your front). It's like the US currency being called the "Americano" or Australian - the "Australo", etc. Pathetic!

>>We had guilders. Now we have euros. The exchange rate is 2.20317 guilders for a euro. What used to be 9.99, now is 4.99. It is all so obvious, and irritating indeed. I always make an effort to translate it to the whole number. Fatigues me quite a lot. If I were president of the Lowlands, then I would forbid such prices for sure!
