I haven't done this, so I'm not 100% sure that it will solve your problem, so check it out and lemme know.
I think I have already looked along those lines in the meantime. What I find confusing is that I created a very basic console app to test out the string to date stuff, and it seemed to work with everything that I threw at it.
However, ASP.NET doesn't want to know...
