FYI: cos I know Americans like this expression - the British Bobby (policeman) is so called after the Prime Minister who first introduced the police service, Sir Robert Peel. They also used to be called, esp. by the criminal fraternity, "Peelers".
Other names for them are "Rozzers", (in Liverpool) "Bizzies", "the Filth", and, among criminals, my favourite "the Awful People".
