I had some very strange behaviour in VFP8 whereby a method of an object was being called for no reason and the datasession was changing due to that of the object. This was making cursors be unavailable for a moment and thus controls were losing values etc.

It turned out to be due to a non aggregate field being included in a SELECT with a GROUP BY with SET ENGINEBEHAVIOUR 90.

VFP didn't throw an error (as it should) for the SELECT. Once I fixed the SELECT up, all of the other bizzre behaviour went away.

Is the alias that you are working with created from a SELECT with a GROUP BY by any chance ?
Cheers,
Jamie
