Hello again,
for SQL server I really don't know, since I have no experience with it. AFAIK the new blob datatype is more suited to replace the SQL Image data. My comments are ment for VFP general fields only. In my opinion general fields are a relic from the past, and should be avoided at all cost. First of all, you have the bloat problem since each picture will take up twice the necessary space. Another problem is that the general fields are bound to other programs, like Excel or Words, and if these programs for some reason are not installed on a computer, you are really in trouble. Another aspect is that if you want to modify a picture stored in a general field, there is no way you can copy the picture to a file to be able to open it in another program to do the modifications. Seperate picture files gives the user total freedom.
