In our system the street number is stored as Integer. I think, it's reasonable, because it takes less space than character 5. So our index uses STR function (though it may be advisable to use BINTOC instead). I believe, our Query engine uses SET ANSI OFF. So we may be affected by this bug if we switch to VFP9. I do not remember the specifics right now and when exactly this particular expression is used. Perhaps, only small fraction of queries uses this index. I may try to get attention to this thread by my former colleague.
If it's not broken, fix it until it is.
