"Sources" sounds as if I knew for sure about the inner workings. <s> Just like everyone else here I can only use publically available information. There's a lot on MSDN, there are many bright people in various forums that share their knowledge, there are many different versions of VFP that behave slightly different giving insights in how they work. Recently there've been blogs like the one from Calvin. One could try things in many variations to see how VFP's behavior changes. I merely collect all the pieces and try to make them fit together.
