That sounds good: start with a close approximation, then adjust if necessary.

Although my AgeCalculator class wasn't designed to do so, I can see how it would be useful to be able to work backward or forwards from a given date using a fixed number of years, months, and days like you need to do here. I may add this capability to my class if I can find time.
