Actually, the line is "cut loose like a deuce, another runner in the night". And Springsteen's original is, IMO, far superior to the truncated abortion that Mannfred Mann produced. That band hasn't done anything worthwhile since "Doo Wah Diddy" was released in 1964 (or thereabouts).
