A follow up to my earlier posting, a neater way of setting the communications parameters of the serial ports would be

oShell=CREATEOBJECT('WScript.Shell')
oShell.Run('mode com1:9600,n,8,1',2)
oShell.Run('mode com2:9600,n,8,1',2)
