FYI:
If You select data from the backend for example SQL server and the column type is varchar then the field type() in foxpro is "C". I have many programs that rely on this.

Now that you know it returns "C" for varchar why does it matter?
I mean why not treat Char fields and varchar fields exactly same?

It seems you wont get any agreement here that this is a bug. So why not look for a way to handle your particular problem instead.
